Training Human Resources to Improve Plant Protection and Quarantine in Partner Countries

To assist our partner and friendly countries to cultivate professionals in plant inspection and quarantine, the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) held a Workshop on Plant Protection and Quarantine from August 17 to 30. The workshop was attended by 24 participants from 27 countries.

The workshop included lectures on topics such as the system, regulations and measures of plant protection and quarantine in Taiwan; diagnosis, identification and integrated management of plant diseases; plant pest monitoring and alert system in Taiwan; and introduction of Taiwan's pesticide management and registration system. The sessions aimed to share Taiwan’s experience in establishing a plant protection and quarantine system and developing related technologies and methods, and to strengthen the exchange of technical information between Taiwan and the other countries.

Apart from the lectures, the participants had the opportunity to visit local government agencies, research institutes and academic institutions involved in plant protection and quarantine. The TaiwanICDF hopes to see participants employing the knowledge they gained to develop effective phytosanitary strategies in their home countries, and ultimately improving their national quarantine system to prevent the entry and spread of pests and invasive species. These endeavors will safeguard partner countries’ agriculture and plant resources, and enhance agricultural trade and the sector as a driver of economic growth as well.
