TaiwanICDF assists Indonesia in boosting agribusiness and helping farmers create their own brands

The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) has held several workshops this year in cooperation with the National Agricultural Training Center (LNATC). The workshops are mainly based on Taiwan’s extensive experience in agricultural production and marketing, with local farmers learning about the procedures of collection, grading, packing and distribution of goods in the collection and treatment plant built with Taiwan’s assistance. The workshops aim to establish a suitable agricultural processing and distribution system in Indonesia and to assist farmers in developing their own brands to generate added value for agricultural products.

The workshops are part of the four-year Strengthening Incubator Agribusiness with Human Resources Development in Bandung project, jointly implemented by the TaiwanICDF and the Indonesian government in 2015 to assist farmers in strengthening field cultivation and management, post-harvest processing techniques, and marketing skills.

Bandung is the capital of West Java, the second largest fruit and vegetable producing region in the country. However, farmers lack healthy seedlings and cultivation and management skills, and these challenges are also among the reasons why this region has been unable to boost the value of agricultural products.

To overcome this obstacle, Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM), dispatched by the TaiwanICDF, installed a smart greenhouse and a goods collection and treatment plant. Aside from setting up these facilities, the TTM also conducted four workshops this year for a total of 80 farmers. By sharing Taiwan’s experience, the project aims to help local farmers increase their earnings and strengthen the bilateral relationship between Taiwan and Indonesia.
