TaiwanICDF Workshop on Value-added Agricultural Products Brings Innovation to the Agricultural Industry in ASEAN and South Asian Countries

In support of the government’s New Southbound Policy and to share Taiwan’s experience of developing value-added agricultural products, the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) held a Workshop on Value-Added Agricultural ProductsWorkshop on Value-added Agricultural Products from June 8 to 21, 2017 to create new business opportunities with ASEAN and South Asian countries. The workshop was attended by 28 participants from six countries, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, and Sri Lanka.

The workshop focused on the development and innovation of value-added agricultural products, and the revival of peripheral industries. It aimed to share the strengths of Taiwan’s value-added agricultural products, the status of agricultural biotechnology development, and the market dynamics between communities of agricultural biotechnology and the agricultural machinery industry, all of which can enhance the value-added agricultural product sector in ASEAN and South Asian countries.

Apart from indoor lectures, the TaiwanICDF arranged field trips based on Taiwan’s advantages in agricultural development, for instance companies in shipping, variety improvement, packaging, and agricultural machinery, so that students can gain insight on the practical use of value-added agricultural products in Taiwan.

Moreover, to boost exchanges in talent and the areas of economic and trade relations, as well as improve industrial linkages between local manufacturers and their ASEAN and South Asian counterparts, the TaiwanICDF organized a roundtable discussion session for local agricultural product processing manufacturers and participants to engage in further discussions. The session was successful in helping local manufacturers develop potential cooperation opportunities with ASEAN and South Asian countries.
