Cradle of Talent: New Book Highlights the ICDF

The ICDF-TAIWAN launched a new book yesterday highlighting Taiwan's successful graduate and post-graduate scholarship programs for students from allied countries.

The book, entitled ''Bridging the World'' in Mandarin, contains riveting personal stories from numerous international students who have studied in Taiwan on these scholarships and benefited greatly from the ''Taiwan experience.''

In cooperation with local universities through the Educational Strategic Alliance in International Cooperation (ESAIC), students applying for ICDF scholarships can choose from seven different degree programs in areas such as agriculture, business, Taiwan studies, aquaculture, health and technology management.

Many of the stories in the book involve students in the agricultural masters and doctorate program at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST). The program, launched seven years ago, has already supported the education of over 50 students.

"This program represents a tremendous opportunity,'' said Rohan McDonald, a biotechnology student from the Caribbean country of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

ICDF Secretary General Yang Tzu-pao praised the ICDF Scholarship Program, calling it a "cradle of talent for Taiwan's friendly allies.''

Molengar Ngoundo, from the African country of Chad, also commended the program for giving him the opportunity to study in Taiwan. Ngoundo hopes to put his skills to good use when he returns to his native country.

''Education is the key to all development problems. If I can solve the food security problems for over 20 million people in Africa, it would reward me more than becoming President,'' he said.

Published in cooperation with the China Times Publishing Company, the book retails for NT$ 160 at a wide assortment of bookstores throughout Taiwan including Kingstone, Hess, Eslite and Senseio.
