Raising the Bar - the TaiwanICDF Assists Swaziland to Establish its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) System

Raising the Bar - the TaiwanICDF Assists Swaziland to Establish its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) System

To help the government of Swaziland improve the quality and effectiveness of its technical and vocational education and training (TVET), the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) invited three specialists to visit two partner schools –Swaziland College of Technology (SCOT) and Vocational and Commercial Training Institute Matsapha (VOCTIM) to assist the TVET Enhancement Project. With ample experience in curriculum planning and training, the experts worked with SCOT and VOCTIM instructors to outline the courses and the management mechanisms of laboratories for three targeted departments, thereby raising their capacity to design programs.

In addition, the TaiwanICDF hosted a seminar on TVET development whereby participants from the academia, industry, and public sector could engage in discussion and exchange. The seminar enabled a better understanding of the supply and demand of technical skills in the labor market, and the conclusions will serve as a guide for the Project stakeholders’ future works.

The Project, jointly launched by the TaiwanICDF and the government of Swaziland in December 2015, aims to enhance the teaching quality in electronics engineering, ICT and automotive repair. By providing a survey of the current market needs, teacher training, teaching quality assurance system, laboratory equipment and management mechanisms, the Project will help Swaziland establish a comprehensive TVET system.
