Workshop on SMEs Development shares Taiwan’s Experience with Partner Countries in Latin America

Workshop on SMEs Development shares Taiwan’s Experience with Partner Countries in Latin America

The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) held a Workshop on Taiwan’s Experience of SME Development (exclusive for Latin America) from August 3 to 16, 2016. In all, 28 participants from 15 countries took part in the workshop.

SMEs have been an important cornerstone of Taiwan’s economic development since the 1960’s. SMEs in Taiwan have maintained their dynamic nature and been quick to adapt to changing conditions; both traditional and high-tech industries have secured a foothold in global markets and also significantly contributed to overall domestic economic growth and employment. The majority of enterprises in our partner countries in Latin America are SMEs, and therefore the workshop is designed specifically for this region. The TaiwanICDF hopes to assist the development of SMEs in Latin America by sharing Taiwan’s experience.

The workshop aimed to provide participants with an overview of SMEs development in Taiwan. Experts from industry, government and academia addressed participants on innovative practices and shared their experiences. As well, visits to National Taiwan University Innovation Incubation Center, Hair O'right company, Changhua Plumbing Association of Taiwan and Nantou Plum DreamWorks allowed participants to learn from these success stories, including how to overcome barriers. In addition, the TaiwanICDF also organized a SME Forum to provide companies with opportunities to network. A total of 12 domestic firms from sectors such as mechanics, food processing and logistics took part in this forum, which helped to promote further collaboration between Taiwan and partner countries in Latin America.
