Assisting Partner Countries to Cultivate Health Professionals in Chronic Disease Control

The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) held a Workshop on Chronic Disease Control from July 20 to August 2, 2016 to assist partner and friendly countries in nurturing health professionals in chronic disease control. A total of 28 participants from 21 nations took part in the workshop.

Most of Taiwan’s partner countries suffer from the heavy burden of obesity-related chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease and diabetes; owing to this phenomenon, capacity building workshops on the prevention and control of chronic disease have become significantly important. The training program correspondingly echoes the WHO “9 global targets for NCDs,” one of which is aimed at accelerating action against the increasing prevalence of obesity.

The workshop aimed to share Taiwan’s experiences in chronic disease control and invited experts addressed participants on chronic disease prevention, treatment and follow-up healthcare, with emphasis on the strategic planning and implantation experiences in obesity-related diseases. The workshop incorporated theoretical and practical application classes such as indoor lectures and visits to chronic kidney disease center, stroke prevention center, obesity prevention center, National Health Research Institutes, health management centers, telecare services center and health education center. Upon returning to their home countries, participants will be able to use the knowledge they acquired to help raise health awareness among the general public, thus improving the overall health of the citizens.
