The TaiwanICDF organizes Workshop on ICT Applications in Agriculture to Assist Partner Countries to Develop E-Agriculture

The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) organized the Workshop on ICT Applications in Agriculture to share Taiwan’s successful experiences in applying ICT in agriculture with partner and friendly countries. The workshop, which ran from June 22 to July 5, 2016, drew a total of 22 participants from 28 countries.

ICT is widely applied in agriculture in Taiwan. In addition to effectively improving the quality and quantity of production, the use of ICT also enables Taiwan’s traditional agriculture to transition into the era of precision agriculture. Thus, the TaiwanICDF planned this workshop to share Taiwan’s development experience in e-agriculture and assist partner countries in developing agriculture.

This workshop consisted of practical courses and was designed under three themes: the use of ICT to create a favorable environment for agricultural production; smart agriculture; and innovative applications in agricultural production and marketing. In addition to lectures given by well-known experts and scholars, the program also included various field trips such as visits to fruit production and marketing groups that have installed web-based remote dynamics monitoring and early warning systems of Bactrocera dorsalis; a factory that uses the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system in post-harvesting mango for export; and production and marketing cooperatives which have joined e-commerce platforms for agricultural products marketing. Through this workshop, participants can understand how Taiwan has applied ICT in agriculture, from production to marketing, and use what they have learned to promote e-agriculture policies in their own countries.
