Project Name: Assisting the recovery of Nepal earthquake affected health posts project (Nepal)
Project Description: On April 25, 2015, Nepal was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake, which caused immense destruction of property, injury, and loss of life. Many health facilities were damaged or destroyed as a result of the earthquake, affecting the functionality and capacity of the health system to respond to the impacts of the disaster. The four districts Sindhupalchowk, Gorkha, Dhading and Dolakha which will be targeted by this project, have 258 health facilities in total, 231 of them have been either completely damaged or partially damaged. The aim of the project is to restore 5 health posts so that they can provide the quality health services for the population in these earthquake-affected communities.
1. Repair/Reconstruction of earthquake-resistant health posts with adequate water, sanitation and hygiene facilities.
2. Enhanced awareness and knowledge of health workers and communities on sanitation, disease and disaster risk management
3. Improve the capacity of health workers to deliver disease outbreak management, disaster preparedness and WASH health services

Project Objectives: To contribute to the restoration and improvement of quality health services for the earthquake affected population in target areas
Executing Agency: World Vision International Nepal(WVIN)
Implementation Arrangement: The TaiwanICDF provides a US$500,000 grant, as well as dispatch a volunteer to assist in the implementation of the project; WVIN will implement the proposed activities and liaise with local NGOs and government offices. World Vision Taiwan will provide technical and management oversight.
Current Progress: To the end of March 2016, the following activities have been implemented:
1. Health post assessment has been completed by the consultant and the health post design was approved by Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP);
2. Expression of Interest (EoI) was announced in national paper and contractors for construction were selected;
3. Completion of two community awareness campaigns in Sindhupalchowk and one in Dolakha;
4. Completion of one capacity building training held in Dolakha (57 people attended), four trainings in Sindhupalchowk (43 people in total attended), one training in Dhading (77 attended);
5. A technical engineer volunteer was dispatched to assist in implementation of health post construction;
6. The hoarding boards with TaiwanICDF's logo were installed at the program sites.
