TaiwanICDF invites Taiwan expert to visit Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to strengthen pesticide field application safety management.

TaiwanICDF invites Taiwan expert to visit Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to strengthen pesticide field application safety management.

To assist our partner country Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to solve the problem of pesticide residues in agricultural products, the TaiwanICDF invited an expert to the Caribbean nation to counsel local farmers on pesticide field application safety management.
Since 2015, the TaiwanICDF has cooperated with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on the Project for Strengthening Farmers’ Organizations and Improving Fruit and Vegetable Production Technology to assist the country in strengthening the operational capacity of farmers’ organizations and enhancing their production techniques, therebyboosting deveopment of the local fruit and vegetables industry. However, the thriving fruit and vegetable industry has recently encountered problems with pesticide residues which has seriously affectedthe quality of the produce.
In order to effectively solve this problem, the TaiwanICDF invited an expert from Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) of Council of Agriculture specializing in pesticide residue testing on a 10-day mission in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. During this period, the expert implemented pesticide field safety practices through farm demonstrations and counseling, anddiscussed at length with the country's technical personnel and farmers to identify the root causes of pesticide residue. The bilateral exchange of experience also assisted in establishing the concept of pesticide safety management among local fruit and vegetable producers. By using Taiwan’s valuable experience in agriculture, we hope to assist our partner countries in the sustainable development of their fruit and vegetable industry.
