Taiwan Commencing New Technical Cooperation Projects in Guatemala and St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Taiwan will be commencing its Guidance to MSMEs Capacity Building Project in Guatemala and its Strengthening Farmers’ Organizations and Improving Fruit and Vegetable Production Technology Project in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the near future following the completion of signing ceremonies for the initiatives on August 6 and August 7, hosted and witnessed by H.E. Ambassador Adolfo Sun in Guatemala, and by H.E. Ambassador Ger Bau-shuan in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Building on Taiwan’s experience of developing micro-, small-and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), the MSME project will assist Guatemala in integrating industrial, government and academic resources. Implemented in line with government policies, this will enhance the Ministry of Economy’s guidance capabilities and promote guidance work relating to MSMEs, thereby advancing economic development and job opportunities.

The project in St. Vincent and the Grenadines expects to utilize Taiwan’s outstanding agricultural technologies and systems, as well as its solid experience of developing farmers’ organizations, to assist the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in strengthening the Ministry of Agriculture as it goes about promoting technical support systems, establishing management systems at farmers’ organizations, and strengthening the functions of such organizations. In coordination with the European Union’s Banana Accompanying Measures program of assistance to the ministry, this will effectively upgrade farmers’ fruit and vegetable production techniques, accelerate agricultural modernization and increase farmers’ incomes.
