TaiwanICDF’s One Town, One Product Project Helping El Salvador to Upgrade Design and Innovation Capabilities

The TaiwanICDF’s One Town, One Product Project in El Salvador is progressing thanks to the efforts of the local project manager and experts appointed and sent to carry out training. Such activities are already effectively upgrading design and innovation capabilities among personnel working in the country’s distinctive local industries.

The organization has been carrying out its three-year One Town, One Product Project alongside Salvadoran authorities since May 2014 in order to assist the Salvadoran government in developing distinctive local industries and raising job opportunities. By introducing Taiwan’s “one town, one product” development model, the promotion of a transition from traditional local crafts to distinctive local industries and the establishment of a guidance system and comprehensive operating systems have, in combination with overall planning in the tourist industry, encouraged citizens to take part in the development of such industries, boosting the local economy.

In accordance with the project’s annual objectives and professional training plan, four experts from National Cheng Kung University, Tainan University of Technology and the Asia-Pacific Institute of Creativity visited El Salvador from June 13 to 22 in order to provide guidance in ceramics product design, innovation planning, art sales and marketing, and packaging design. In addition to investigating pathways for merchandise from local industries and providing marketing recommendations, their sharing of knowledge and experience also strengthened innovation and competency in product design, manufacturing and processing among those in El Salvador’s ceramics industry.
