TaiwanICDF’s International Higher Education Scholarship Program to Grant Scholarships to 201 Students

TaiwanICDF’s International Higher Education Scholarship Program to Grant Scholarships to 201 Students

Having completed a review of applications in cooperation with its partner universities, the TaiwanICDF will this year grant scholarships to 201 outstanding students from partner countries through its International Higher Education Scholarship Program.

The TaiwanICDF started the scholarship program in 1998 to assist partner countries in cultivating talent in policy planning, and technical and management-related disciplines, and now cooperates with 21 Taiwanese universities to offer 34 bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. courses covering science and engineering, agriculture, public health and medicine, business management, and many other professional fields, providing full scholarships to students from partner countries while they study in Taiwan. To date, 1,335 students have benefited from scholarships, and a total of 486 students from 36 countries are currently studying in Taiwan.

Attending classes with local students and participating in campus activities helps Taiwan’s overseas students to improve their understanding of local culture and society. The increased interaction and exchange between local and foreign students also promotes the objective of campus internationalization and helps to deepen relationships between Taiwan and its partners. A team including two scholarship alumni and a local student from National Chengchi University, for example, have recently achieved success in the opening rounds of the Hult Prize, an internationally renowned social entrepreneurship competition, and will now be participating in the finals of the event in New York in September. Elsewhere, a former scholarship recipient who graduated from the International MBA in Technology Management at National Tsing Hua University has gone on to become the director of the national ICT center upon returning home, becoming fully involved in TaiwanICDF and national cooperation and development projects. The list of this year’s scholarship recipients is available on the TaiwanICDF’s website at http://www.icdf.org.tw/ct.asp?xItem=31306&ctNode=29876&mp=2.
