Project Name: Fruit and Vegetable Production and Marketing Development Project (Haiti)
Project Description: This project will increase fruit and vegetable production and marketing activities and establish best practices for the development of the local fruit and vegetable industry.

Overall, this project will:

  1. Assist in fruit and vegetable production and marketing in Croix-des Bouquets on the eastern outskirts of Port-au-Prince, thereby providing Haitian people with a source of fresh, healthy and affordable produce.
  2. Establish a seed and seedling management center in Jacmel and assist cooperating units to manage the facility and provide consultancy services; establish efficient supply chains to facilitate marketing activities and thereby improve farmers’ profits.
  3. Complete project handover activities.

Fruit and Vegetable Production and Marketing and Bamboo Development Project (Haiti)

Project Objectives:

The objectives of this project are:

  1. Improve technical skills associated with cultivation and planting; establish five production and marketing groups to improve farmers’ profits and provide guidance to 70-80 farmers.
  2. Assist cooperating units to manage a seed and seedling management center and produce 60,000 seedlings per year.
  3. Establish a human resources implementation plan and provide training to three project stakeholders and six technicians from cooperating units.
  4. Complete project handover activities.
Executing Agency:
  1. Taiwan Technical Mission in the Republic of Haiti
  2. Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources Development (MARNDR) (Republic of Haiti)
  3. Federation of Native Coffee Associations (FACN) (Republic of Haiti)
Implementation Arrangement: Members of the Taiwan Technical Mission will provide technical assistance and assistance for capacity building.
Current Progress:

To the end of December 2012, the following activities have been completed:

1.Established 5 production and marketing groups; compiled associated documentation; performed 4 training workshops and 3 farmer’s association meetings.

2.Produced 56,431 seedlings at the seed and seedling management center; performed renovate 1 greenhouse; completed associated documentation.

3.Promoted activities among 10 demonstration farmers, 83 farmers and drafted handbooks Promoted a human resources implementation plan, including training to 3 project stakeholders and 6 technicians from cooperating units;.

4.Promoted project handover activities.

Projected Benefits: The project is projected to improve output by 15 percent, or US$330,000, and increase incomes by 15 percent.
